Dead Until Dark

I have just finished reading (well, listening to actually) the first novel in the Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris, Dead Until Dark. As you may, or may not know, these are the novels that the popular Tv-series True Blood is based on. But I must say, the books are better. Even if we get to see everything through Sookie's eyes, and the fact that they have added  characters and events in the series. Of course I have the images of the cast in my head. Yes, I find Stephan Moyer's Bill Compton very attractive. And yes, I find fellow Swede Alexander Skarsgård very, very attractive as Eric Northman. Anna Paquin is great as Sookie. They have explored other characters in the series, even if the focus is on Sookie, we get to see more of for example, Sam and Jason in the Tv-series, which is good too.

The book is from a first person perspecitve and Sookie is the one we are following. I usually prefer it to be third person, because I would so like to know what everyone is thinking. I'm kind of nosy... :P I mean wouldn't you like to know what is going on inside of Bill's head? Or Eric's for that matter?

These books are a lot more juicy than say, Twilight, which is quite sweet in comparison (in the first two-three books anyway). They are more like Laurell K. Hamilton's series about Anita Blake. Rawer and much sexier. I like it. It has all the elements I like in a book; romance, vampires,  a little bit of violence, a whole lot of sex...

If you like the tv-series, read the books, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

I May be a Trekkie Yet

I saw the new Star Trek movie the other day. Apparently you can rent movies via the Xbox these days. That's kind of cool. Quite cheap and in full HD. My first full HD experience. I have never been a big fan och Star Trek, only seen one movie before (First Contact and it was the first date with my ex). I have never really been a fan of out-of-this-world kind of movies. But I might just change my mind. Well, my hubbie has slowly, but surely changed my view of sci-fi and unworldly stuff. Like Star Wars and such.

Anyway, we watched the movie, and I actually liked it. I might just have to check out a few of the other movies and series that has been made. I have seen a couple of episodes here and there, but never in the right order. Even if I have some aversion toward the outfits... Luckily in the new movie they are a bit more up to date.

I must say that they have done an excellent job with the casting. Chris Pine could be William Shatner's son for sure, and Zachary Quinto is great as Spock. Of course, they are way hotter, at least in today's standards. Really great movie. See it, if you're into that kind of things...

Everyone Loves a Bad Boy, Right?

They do get all the cool stuff, right? I mean, Darth Vader is so much cooler than Luke Skywalker, especially when you know who is hiding in there. :P Hell, I would even take Han Solo rather than Luke Skywalker. :P But then agina, he is a rogue. And they have so much hotter outfits, too.

Take BBC's Robin Hood for example. Sure, Jonas Armstrong makes a very dashing Robin Hood, I'll give you that. But, Richard Armitage's Guy of Gisborne is way hotter. He's dark and brooding, but at the same time you just know that there is a softer side in there somewhere, that the right woman will discover. And he is in black leather too.

Well, in this case it might be my love for Richard's Mr Thornton that makes me biast to him. But he is kind of alluring as Gisborne too. He's got that little teasing twinkle in his eye that I love.

And to tell the truth, I rooted for Brian de Bois- Guilbert's getting Rebecka in Ivanhoe. Sam Neill, when he was young, was totally dashing. I mean if she didn't get Ivanhoe, why shouldn't she go with Guilbert? Seriously... I still don't get why she said no.Okay, so he was in love with her against his will and all that. But still, he's more handsome than that Ivanhoe, whose just so meek. :P And, he's willing to risk everything just to be with her. Seriously, who can say no to that? I wish the got a second chance...

There seems to be this obsession with black clothes amongst the villains. Vampires often wear black, need I say more? Leather in all forms is very popular and, well, kind of hot. I wouldn't wear it, I don't get why anyone does, it's most uncomfortable and very warm.

And we must not forget George Wickham, the dashing bad boy of Pride and Prejudice. Because he is handsome, at least in the book, I don't care for either Adrian Lukis or Rupert Friend. Of course, we readers and audience, see through his dashing looks and winning smiles, Elizabeth does not until Mr Darcy's letter.

The list may go on and on. Lots of handsome bad boys out there.

Who is you favourite bad guy, and why?

New Moon - The Movie

So, I finally went to see New Moon, the movie, on Tuesday. After seeing the trailer I must say that my expextations were pretty low. And perhaps because of that I didn't think it sucked. But I have to say I think the acting was pretty bad. The only time when Robert Pattinson actually looked "alive" was at the very end when he told Bella his condition for turning her himself. There's this teasing smile and twinkle in his eyes that makes me see why people thinks he is so attractive. Otherwise, he was kind of flat. Kristen Stewart too. I don't really like how she portraits Bella. She makes her more helpess than she actually is.But I do like Taylor Lautner's Jacob. He seems so genuine.

There is now way you can even begin to compare the novel with the movie. So much is lost. Sure, I think New Moon is better than Twilight, but that's mainly because it's more action in New Moon. And then there is the problem with not liking the actors. ;) Therein lies the problem with liking a book so much. The expectations are so high and you want the movie to be as you have pictured it in your head. But I have found that it's better to have no expectations and be pleasantly surprised instead of disappointed.

The soundtrack, however, is great! Check it out! :)
